Happy Birthday Makai!

On the 4th of July, our nation turned 236, and Makai turned 13. THIRTEEN! To celebrate, we took him out for a day of fun in the sun, which, for an old boy, means a long walk and some outdoor lounging. (Forgive the iPhone pics, I'm kicking myself for not bringing out the big guns.)

Here he is, patiently waiting for us to get our act together and get out of the house.

"Hellooooooo?"

"Hurry up!! It's my birthday!!"

Right before we left I decided we couldn't leave the house without giving Makai a little bit of flair to rock for his big day. Sadly, the hat only lasted for about 30 seconds until he burrowed into a bush to pee. That little elastic string was no match for my dog and good peeing bush.

We walked up to the main drag for the humans to get some lunch, and swung by All the Best Pets (they really are THE best) to pick up some special birthday snacks for the man of the hour. We made away with a duck foot, a beef trachea (ack!), and a bully stick.

Yummy. He carried that one home in his mouth like a giant cigar. Appropriate, I'd say.

Next up, we hopped in the car and headed over to Green Lake where we parked our buns under a dogwood tree and soaked up some sun for a couple of hours (all wearing sun screen, of course).

Such a lovely day!

We topped the day off with his favorite activity, and ours: couch naps.

Never when I was 19 years old did I think I’d have this guy by my side well into my thirties. He's a trooper and a shmooper, naturally. Here's to another wonderful year, and many more, Shmoops!
