A quick update on Makai: he's doing okay! This old Shmoops is one serious trooper. A week later and you'd never know he just had his stomach surgically opened up and emptied. He's back to acting like his old self, which means he wants to take long walks and wants to jump up on the bed - two things he isn't allowed to do for another week.
I cannot explain how relieved/elated/happy/lucky I feel. I don't want to jinx anything, but can I just say: whew!
